    Mukunda Bahadur Shrestha Collection

Mukunda Bahadur Shrestha, a Patan-based photographer who dedicated more than 25 years of his life to photography. Mukunda ji spent the 70’s and 80’s travelling across Nepal, photographing mountains, culture and people. His photographs introduced Nepal to the world.

    Sumitra Manandhar Gurung Collection

Sumitra Manandhar Gurung Collection takes us into the life and times of its collector—Sumitra Manandhar Gurung—well-known in Nepal for her untiring work to bring about change in the lives of deprived and marginalized groups. This collection of 900-odd photographs spanning the period between the 1960s and the 1990s illustrates the various dimension of life within the Manandhar family, Sumitra’s experiences at the various institutions she studied and trained at, as well as aspects of rural life in Nepal across the 1980s and 1990s. Indeed, a closer look at these reveals the transformations—social, cultural and political—that Nepal has undergone over the decades.

The early 1990s, when Bikas Rauniar earned his title of ace photojournalist, was when Nepal truly entered the modern era. The People's Movement of 1990 delivered a constitution that guaranteed fundamental freedoms, which led to the proliferation of media. Now you could actually be an editor, a reporter and a photojournalist.
